Long answer: Shōgun is simply great television. As a historical drama (especially one focusing on an incredibly eventful and complicated era), it succeeds not only in telling a good story but staying true to the realities of the time period. The performances are fantastic: Cosmo Jarvis and Anna Sawai hold their own as a marooned English sailor and his stoic translator-turned-lover, and Hiroyuki Sanada is completely mesmerizing as the embattled warlord Yoshii Toranaga (inspired by the historical Tokugawa Ieyasu). (Seriously, he can speak volumes with just a tiny quirk of his mouth.) Plus, it's got something for everyone: intrigue, betrayal, power politics, a clash of cultures, earthquakes, Cosmo Jarvis getting naked almost every other episode, men being torn apart by cannons, and an exquisitely angsty romance. Last but not least, it's visually stunning, as evidenced by all the beautiful gifsets floating around after each episode. So, yes.

Skirk + Neuvillette, Skirk + Raiden Shogun, Raiden Shogun + Neuvillette: Mutual respect between powerful combatants with experience fighting Abyssal and Divine power. Neuvilette and Skirk are businesslike acquaintances already. The Shogun readily falls into that pattern.

Neuvillette + Raiden Ei: by Light and Void, the Traveller was not exaggerating. This elder youkai is even less in the know than Furina was. Did she never receive Celestia's mandate, or did she just hit her head during the Cataclysm?

Skirk + Furina: the Allogene is a passable backline combatant, but it's her other talents that impress: situational awareness, predicting enemy movements, subtle leadership... and to Skirk's chagrin, reading people. She has somehow figured out Skirk is working on some serious reintegration+unrepression, and she is both cheerleading and offering good advice. // Furina believes in making self-knowledge out of past trauma, and if she can help Skirk succeed then surely she can help herself, too.

Raiden Ei + Furina: Furina is so glad she never had to bluff her way through Archon meetings. // Furina is human? Ei was... 90% sure Furina was an Archon five hundred years ago? Hmm, Miko probably mentioned something about this. Oh well.

I have my own thoughts, but why do you think Natlan need for help form the other nations to deal with abyss. Not even direct fighting, stuff like resources and such.

Now I could be wrong, but k don’t remember ever saying Natlan needs help from other nations against the abyss.

Genuinely, if anything, that last patch proves the thing they need most might be more fighters and healers, or an exceptional display of power.

Honestly in any given situation, the best choices for help to me always sounds like it would be Venti. It’s pretty broken to be able to assess a situation by feeling the wind. He’s created storms in favor of troops before and a dragon that has his back. I’d be curious to know how far he could shoot an arrow. Also if we’re talking about people down for some nonsense, Varka.

This is biased opinion of course but I’ve always thought in a war to gain divinity, it was only natural a being that control Anemo and another that controls Dendro would win a seat despite not being known for their battle power; cause it’s fundamentally hard to invade a territory and not deal with those two things. If Liyue was landlocked I’d say the same about Zhongli but what makes him impressive is the fact he wasn’t. He beat sea monsters.

If you’re not picking mondstadt for Venti, you’re picking Inazuma for Ei, cause that woman and her troops don’t lose. Once again, the power of a storm seems to be a hard counter to a majority of monsters. Her kill count resumé are landmarks. Land, sky, sea, it really doesn’t matter. She will kill it if provoked and that day becomes a religion or a festival.

I had horribly angsty idea for Shogun! Mc.

That being the few times they did have some form of freedom angst their eternity programing and from Ei they spent it in the depths of the temple: Down where Ei first begun creating the puppets. They spent time amoung dead bodies that either only temperaily showed life before either it faded or was cut down or never saw life at all.

And they slowly over time gather the bodies and construct beds and knit soft cloth and stuff animals and they tuck their (they could never meet, never speak, its likely they never got the chance to become people. But still they were once people and that means something.) siblings into those beds (with stuffed animals and soft sheets and let them have comfort in death that could never once have in life. Ripped from it too soon.) They goes as far as to grace their deceased siblings with names. (They never got the chance, the grace, the kindess of being gifted a name. The only one they truly ever got in this world was 'Raiden Shogun', not even the one she supposed left free, only to seal them away. Afterall, perhaps in Raiden Ei's mind a thing didn't deserve a name.)

Some bodies are more broken peices that they slowly peice together. Some more human and flesh then puppet that they can only offer the kindness of softness to. They come down when they can, they read stories to dead bodies and sing lullabys (perhaps this too is also a comfort mechainism. But still this is the only comfort they could give them, comfort their mother refused.)

So when they do break, when Raiden Ei and Yae Miko debate killing shogun! mc and even the traveler get involved (after Shogun broke down, whether by instinct or not, Raiden Ei immediately goes for the killing strike that the traveler deflects. 'Monster' the travelers voice echos only once. Thats all it takes for Raiden Ei to back down.) and Sara ends up becoming their keeper, Shogun! Mc brings Sara down with her to see their siblings because if it might be the last thing they do, they atleast want someone they believe and hope won't destory what they've done. (They know Yae Miko wouldn't hestiate if it was for her precious Ei and they heavily doubt Ei would have any form of care for these people she has seen for centuries as nothing more then husks to throw away into piles.)

Lets just Sara is a fuckton less trusting of Ei's choices after that and a heck of alot more understanding of why Shogun took the choice she did in hiding it.

(Ei does rediscover that room. With beds and cradles, with bodies tucked in like children. With a rocking chair and a made made needle work cloth and the word 'monster' echos in her mind-)

(She comes back up much more quiet, much more willing to refuse Mikos push to kill Shogun. Much less willing to have look anywhere at Shogun and see her as anything less then Makoto.)

(Because thats an action Makoto would have done. Would have offered kindess in death that one could not afford in life.)

(She is not Makoto. She cannot be Makoto. But somehow down the path she has become a much worse person then she could have ever considered.)

I thought Toronaga's son was so cute. Poor baby. He was dorky but I think that just endeared me more smh. Also just waiting for the anjin to get his ship back and as he's sailing away say "this a fucked up country" haha

Nagakato was really endearing, which was what made his ending so tragic. He wants to be like his father — who won battle after battle, succeeding in crafting his own myth — and he wants his father to approve of him and entrust him with his larger plans for war with the regents. The problem is that Toranaga doesn't trust anyone — having your father trade you to another warlord at age six will do that — and in order to win his approval, Nagakato takes direct (and impulsive) action (killing Jozen, attacking his uncle at the tea house), which backfires. I would say this was a tragedy of high parental expectations, except that Toranaga basically expects him to sit back and be quiet, a state of (perceived) passivity that Nagakato can't handle being in. (It also makes sense that, in the absence of his father's admiration, he would seek out companionship and direction from men of his own generation, like Omi. There's also a moment in the last episode where he tries to connect with Fuji; it's actually very sweet, making me think the show was trying to foreshadow a possible romance between them. Hmmm, guess not.) But what makes Nagakato ultimately so tragic is that like all young men who have never actually seen a war, he only thinks of it as honorable and glorious. And ultimately his desire to impress his father (by eliminating Saeki, his father's most immediate enemy) leads to one of the most bleak and meaningless deaths the show has given us so far.

Will the Anjin ever get his ship back? At this point, it's almost like the ship is one of those mouse on a string cat toys and Toranaga keeps pulling it away just when Blackthorne thinks he's close. But I also feel kind of bad for Blackthorne — how was he to know he was sailing right into a civil war and would end up firmly (and dangerously) on one side of it? At this point, though, yeah, I imagine he would like to just sail away and get back home where there aren't any earthquakes or ritual suicides and where he can eat his food with his hands as God intended.
